Sky City Church” in Hong Kong, by effect of their refusal to welcome in reality and their latter refusal to communicate, excommunicated a Christian who is absolutely innocent in relation to all excommunications by churches. Sky City Church warned to not contact their non-responding church leaders “we consider it solicitation and inappropriate”.

Sky City Church in Hong Kong refused to welcome in reality, and subsequently excommunicated an innocent Christian.

Sky City Church “service” is a potpurri of some awfully “pentecostal”, some nice & normal, and a stalking building security personnel who would not leave me alone until I some time after the “service” confronted the uniformed building security and asked him to discontinue pursuing me. The intimidating security stalking was presumably (hopefully) not a fault from the church. The performance by the Australian church-pastor was, however, typical of a motivational and occasionally manipulative “pentecostal” (http://www.acc.org.au) speaker.

Usually these “pentecostal” pastors manipulate in relation to the giving of money for God's favour of financial return, but this was not the issue at Sky City Church. Sky City Church did not emphasise the giving of finances as the 'basket' was prepared to pass through the rows at the day of my visit, nor did they manipulate with delusions of financial blessings in return. But their Australian pastor did manipulate the expectancy to their “service”/meeting/gathering, and to their succeeding meeting/service/gathering. It was obvious that their church was “service/stage”-focused. They wanted people who were at the 11 am service to come also to their 6 pm service. Of course the pastor utilised the classical audience control of word-faith-styled churches through requesting the audience to repeat certain words or phrases.

After the “service”, one member of Sky City Church who I had a brief interaction with, for some reason asked me if I was a Catholic. I replied to the church-member that I am pro-Catholic but not a Catholic, and neither an anti-Catholic. The church-member produced a quick haughty laugh at my reply, and then seriously stated that she knows Catholicism because she had read about it in High School.

The other Sky City Church member who I chatted to had his background as a member of Hillsect Sydney (http://www.kyrkor.be/Hillsong-Brisbane.htm).

Australian-pastor excommunication in HK.

Sky City Church.

It seems more than clear that I am not welcome to your "church" or club. If there had been Christ-likeness within any of your leaders, then that leader would have welcomed.

Also, it appears as though your Australian pastor follows the examples demonstrated so far by his Australian "pentecostal" colleagues (http://www.acc.org.au) in covertly excommunicating the innocently excommunicated, rather than following the example of Jesus Christ in welcoming the innocently excommunicated.

Welcome, or, Australian-pastor excommunication in HK?

Sky Life Church,

On Saturday June 7 I inquired by email to your church office if there are occasions for fellowship in your church. Your church did not respond. In spite of your no-response, I visited your church “service”.

On Tuesday June 10 I inquired by email to your church office a second time if there are occasions for fellowship in your church. Your church did not respond.

On Wednesday June 11 I inquired by email to your church office a third time if there are occasions for fellowship in your church, including also to all Sky Life Group leaders. To my third enquiry including to all of your group leaders, your church finally responded through “operations pastor” Andrea Wong.

In the response through “operations pastor” Andrea Wong, your church mentioned two groups that meet on Fridays and Saturdays. Both of those two group leaders which your church suggested had already received my enquiry on June 11, but both of those church leaders had decided to not answer. In fact, none of your church group leaders who had been asked wanted to welcome.

Because none of the group leaders of your church wanted to welcome, and because the minimum information for any meeting was not provided (time & location) I asked again “operations pastor” Andrea Wong if there are occasion in your church for Christians to fellowship with other Christians of similar relationship needs. As a response to my inquiry, your “operations pastor” Andrea Wong warned me to not inquire again with the group leaders if any group would welcome.

Although insufficient information was provided regarding establishment of time & location for any group meeting, your church through “operations pastor” Andrea Wong insisted that “This should have been sufficient [information]”. In addition to neglecting provision of the absolute minimum required information, and all your church group leaders’ refusals to welcome, your “operations pastor” warned that any further enquiry to the group leaders regarding a welcoming to a time & location towards any meeting shall be considered to be solicitation and inappropriate: “We consider it solicitation and inappropriate”. Moreover, your Sky City Church demanded “I would insist that you stop communicating with our leaders”.

Are there occasions of fellowship in your congregation where also single Christians can talk to each other?

Or, has Sky City Church already decided to excommunicate me?

Regards,

Dear Torsten,

As you seem to have indicated in your email below, you had already received my earlier reply from yesterday. This should have been sufficient in response to your previous questions and there should not have been any continued occasion where you needed to be communicating with all of the other Skylife leaders through mass email. Those email addresses are not made available to be used in this manner, and when this kind of behaviour occurs we consider it solicitation and inappropriate. As such, I would insist that you stop communicating with our leaders in this way.

I will get one of our other pastors, Ps Steve Lunn, to get in touch with you directly. If you could send us your contact number I can make sure that this happens.

Andrea

Andrea Wong of Sky City Church.

Hello,

Thanks for a friendly response email.

You mentioned in your reply that your church have groups that meet on Fridays and Saturdays. I think some young adult groups might also meet on Wednesdays.

To my knowledge, I did actually include all listed group leaders of Sky City Church in my enquiry about participation in groups. However, none of the groups of Sky City Church responded with an invitation.

Additionally, I did provide my contact details to several persons of your church upon my visit to your church on Sunday June 8.

None of the persons leading young adult groups of your church have contacted, and none have invited.

Are there occasions of fellowship in your congregation where also single Christians can talk to each other?

Re: Christian fellowship

Hi Torsten,

My name is Andrea and I’m writing from Sky City Church. Great to hear that you are so interested in getting involved with a Skylife group!

Our Skylife groups are exactly what you describe - they are fellowship, small groups that meet all over the city during the week. They are a great way to stay connected with people, to get to know new people as well and to grow in your faith together. Typically, a Skylife group will meet weekly or fortnightly; either in someone’s home or in a cafe/ restaurant. The Skylife groups go through different Bible studies together / teaching studies (such as studies modelled after our Sunday sermons), have time to pray together, to fellowship and to do life together.

I’m guessing that you also had a chance to look over the different lists of our Skylife groups that meet during the week based on your email. If you are looking for something for late 20s - 30s, I would suggest some of our Skylife groups that meet on Fridays and Saturdays.

Two that I could recommend that you check out are Eliza and Eugene’s group that meet fortnightly on Fridays in Causeway Bay (they will meet next week) and also Emil Chung’s group that meets fortnightly on Saturdays around brunch time. Eliza and Eugene’s group have a few couples in their group but also some singles in their late 20s - 30s. Emil’s group have mostly singles in their early 20s but also a few in their early 30s. Both are great groups that you might want to check out.

Anyway, if you have any other questions, feel free to get in touch with me again. We’d love to meet you on Sunday as well - I”m usually at the table at the back after there service so come and say hi and I can also introduce you to some of our other Skylife leaders. Sometimes this also helps when you’re able to put a name to a face and then maybe too, you’ll find a group that you’d prefer to check out first :)

Do hope to see you again this Sunday and we look forward to getting you connected in a great group and in the life of the church!

Andrea

Christian fellowship

Dear Sky Life Groups at Sky City Church,

Hi.

I am a Christian here in Hong Kong. I seek a Christian community in Hong Kong where I might find opportunities to fellowship, socialise, meet and talk with also Christian singles.

Are there occasions of fellowship in your congregation where also single Christians in the age bracket 30-39 (maybe also late 20’s) gather and communicate? Are there fellowship groups, community groups, cell groups or small groups in your church that I can attend and develop friendships?

Best regards,

Torsten Nenzén
